For students of Applied or Technical Computer Engineering, we currently offer two dissertation subjects:
Integration of Java on an ARM-based hardware platform with Windows CE 5.0
In modern industrial controls, Microsoft operating systems and other operating systems such as Linux, Mac, Palm OS or Solaris are used. So that all customer applications can run on all these operating systems and therefore porting does not have to be carried out and managed separately for every individual operating system, a Java Virtual Machine (for short Java VM or JVM) is increasingly used. The JVM is used as an interface to the machine and to the operating system. This has the great advantage of high investment protection for software applications which can run on such platforms.
In the dissertation, the possibilities and risks of such a JVM on a visualization station based on an embedded XSCALE platform (ARM core) should be investigated. In addition, several JVMs must be integrated on the XSCALE platform for performance measurement.
