New assembly line increases EMS capacities at RAFI
RAFI is using precision and high-performance technology made by Fuji for the installation of a new assembly line. With this investment RAFI, one of the ten largest EMS service providers, is strengthening Germany's position as a location for the electronics production industry. The new line consists of 14 NXTII-M6 placement modules which can assemble a very wide range of printed circuit boards. RAFI also purchased a large range of placement and special heads to meet its customers' many different special requests.
The system features a modular and scalable design which enables product-related setup by simple, plug-and-play replacement of the placement heads. In the current configuration, the theoretical placement capacity is 309,000 components/hour. The component spectrum ranges from 01005 to 74 x 74 mm; in addition special plug connectors up to 180 mm or bare dies can be assembled directly from the wafer. Setup on the fly made it possible to reduce the setup time for the Fuji system by approx. 80% compared to the predecessor system. At the same time, the area capacity is higher because the machines are installed back to back and can be operated completely from the front side. The intelligent feeder system gives an alert in advance when the components on a feeding unit are running low and autonomously changes to the next accordingly assembled unit without a break. This investment has resulted in greatly improved runtime as well as first pass yield, which will also have an effect on placement costs.
